About our winery...
Located near San Donato in Poggio, in the province of Florence, halfway between Florence and Siena, in the very heart of the area known as “Chianti Classico Gallo Nero”, the farm has a total area of nearly 60 hectares.
At present 10 hectares are utilized for specialized vineyard cultivation, while another area, of about the same extension, is considered a so called “promiscuous” vineyard; that is where the wine is cultivated together with other trees, such as in this case, the olive.
The average altitude of these vineyards is considered relatively high, between 400 and 500 meters above sea level. If on one hand
this aspect causes a low profit per hectare, on the other hand, it represents quite a highly positive feature, since the wines
obtained from “high” vineyards located in lower altitudes are the most sought after.
The composition of vineyards cultivated on Eocene land, earth that is mostly clay but laced with fossils (therefore
quite permeated), is essentially the one required by the Disciplinary Committee for the production of “Chianti Classico DOCG”,
in which the “Sangiovese” vine-stock has an ample predominance of about 90%.
There is also a limited presence of “Cabernet Sauvignon” that however offers an important contribution in the production
of a particular farm “cru” named “Le Rocce”. There is also a limited presence of “Merlot and Syrah”
that however offers an important contribution in the production of a particular farm “cru” named “Pietro”.
The goal of the farm is to maintain this limited, artisanal production along with the collaboration of qualified experts, in order to
privide wines that represent the best of Tuscany's Chianti Classico.
